01
The story says King Hima's son had it written in his horoscope that he would die of a snake bite on the fourth day after his wedding.
02
On that fourth night his wife piled her gold and silver ornaments and coins at the doorway and lit lamps all around. She kept her husband awake with songs and stories.
03
Yama came as a snake, but the glitter of the lamps and jewels dazzled him. He could not enter, and sat on the heap listening to her songs until morning, then left.
04
This is why a lamp is lit outside the house in Yama's name on Dhanteras evening, called Yamdeepdan.
