वनवास में रावण छल से सीता का हरण कर लंका ले गया। राम और लक्ष्मण ने वानरों की सेना के साथ सीता की खोज की।
During the exile, Ravana abducted Sita by deceit and took her to Lanka. Rama and Lakshmana searched for her with an army of vanaras.

हनुमान ने लंका जाकर सीता का पता लगाया। सेना ने समुद्र पर सेतु बाँधा और लंका पहुँची। कई दिनों तक भयंकर युद्ध चला।
Hanuman went to Lanka and found Sita. The army built a bridge over the sea and reached Lanka. A fierce war lasted many days.

अन्त में दशमी के दिन श्रीराम ने रावण का वध किया। इसे अधर्म पर धर्म की जीत माना जाता है।
On Dashami Rama finally slew Ravana. This is regarded as the victory of dharma over adharma.

इसी कारण दशहरे पर रावण के पुतले जलते हैं। कई स्थानों पर इसी दिन देवी दुर्गा की महिषासुर पर विजय का भी स्मरण होता है।
That is why effigies of Ravana are burned at Dussehra. In many places the day also recalls Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura.
