How to keep the Navratri vratनवरात्रि व्रत विधि

नवरात्रि का व्रत घटस्थापना से शुरू होता है। पहले दिन कलश में जल भरें, आम के पत्ते और नारियल रखें, और पास की मिट्टी में जौ बोएँ। गणेश का स्मरण करें, फिर उस दिन की देवी का। दीपक जलाएँ। जो घर निभा सके, वही दीपक नौ रात जले।

The Navratri vrat opens with Ghatasthapana. On the first day, fill a kalash with water, set mango leaves and a coconut on it, and sow barley in soil beside it. Remember Ganesha, then the goddess of the day. Light a lamp. If the house can keep it, that lamp stays through the nine nights.

हर सुबह जौ को पानी दें। मन्त्र सुबह और शाम पढ़ें। ध्यान का श्लोक एक बार, फिर नमः मन्त्र। गिनती घर की है। ग्यारह या एक सौ आठ, दोनों चलते हैं। कोई एक संख्या आदेश नहीं है।

Water the barley each morning. Recite the mantra in the morning and again in the evening: the dhyan verse once, then the namah mantra. The count belongs to the family. Eleven or one hundred and eight both occur. Neither number is an order.

अन्न का व्रत अधिकतर घर दूसरे दिन से रखते हैं। चावल, गेहूँ और दाल छोड़ते हैं। फल, दूध, और जिन आटों की परम्परा घर में पहले से है, वही भोजन रहता है। प्याज और लहसुन अधिकतर व्रत में नहीं रखे जाते। यह सूची कानून नहीं है। परिवार जो पहले से रखता है, वही मान्य है।

Most households leave grain from the second day: no rice, wheat, or pulses. Fruit, milk, and the flours the family already allows are the food. Onion and garlic are usually left out. That list is not a law. What the family already keeps is enough.

व्रत नौवें दिन कलश उठाने के बाद खुलता है, या विजयादशमी की सुबह, जैसा घर में चला आया है। कन्या पूजन आठवें या नौवें दिन होता है। बालिकाओं को भोजन, एक छोटा उपहार, और आदर के साथ विदाई। हवन जिस घर में होता है, नौवें दिन होता है।

The fast opens after the kalash is taken up on the ninth day, or on Vijayadashami morning, as the house has always done. Kanya Puja is kept on the eighth or the ninth: a meal for the girls, a small gift, and a respectful sending-off. A havan, where the house keeps one, is offered on the ninth.
